Trip to the Baltimore Zoo

With this week being "spring break" and all, we decided we should do something besides spring cleaning, facebook, and playing. We decided to take a trip to the Baltimore Zoo. We contemplated which zoo to go too since we are within a couple hours of the National Zoo in DC and the Baltimore Zoo.

We chose the Baltimore Zoo since parking was easier and they have giraffes (which are our son's FAVORITE animal).

We chose today since the weather forecasters were calling for a beautiful spring day. The weather was to get in the low 60's and be sunny. So, I got up at 8 and packed the backpack of ice water, PB & J sandwiches, a baggy of grapes, a baggy of pretzels and mini Nilla wafers, bandaids, wipes, extra clothes, and sunscreen (which we never remembered to use lol). We packed the kids in the car, grabbed the umbrella stroller and directions, and began our hour and a half trip to Baltimore. It probably would have been 15 mins closer, but traffic and road construction slowed us down a bit.

At 10:55, we pulled into the zoo, got a very close parking spot, waiting in a short line, and proceeded into the zoo.

Noah was in charge of the map. We sang Dora the Explorer "I'm the Map" song throughout the zoo. The main things we wanted to see were the Rhinos, Zebras, Elephants with baby Sampson, the giraffes, and the Children's Zoo. Syd was fascinated with the idea that the animals she sees in books are REAL and really make noises!!

What made the day so wonderful is that my 6 year old and soon to be 3 year old were so well- behaved!! We only had one screaming incident with Sydney as she was ready for her nap and only wanted Mommy near her. Other than that I can't complain.

Things to prepare your children with before going to the zoo:

1. Children, Chimpanzees do pee everywhere....they pee from the treetops on their food and then eat it....
2. Baby elephants dig through his/her Mama's fresh poo and eats the chunks
and...
3. Do not lick the metal pools like the giraffes. They are not to be confused with leafless trees.

We spent a good 4 hours there before hitting the road back home. And that was plenty of time for us. Syd was crashing and Noah's legs were tired. And the two old parents were worn out!

God, thank you, THANK you for beautiful family days like the one we had today. I am truly blessed.

What a fun day! You couldn't have asked for better weather. I personally love going to the zoo as much as Aiden does. We're planning to go in the next few weeks.

Sounds like a perfect day. We are hitting Animal Kingdom at WDW in early May and I'm the only person in my family excited about it! Ingrates!
